Acupuncture

Developed in China over 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is probably the most prominent aspect of Chinese Medicine to the Western world. It involves inserting fine, sterile needles into specific points found along the body’s energetic pathways. These pathways, often called meridians, are the conduit in which Qi (pronounced “chee”), or life energy, flows throughout the body.

Qi courses through every cell, muscle, tissue, and organ of the body. It gives us energy, shields us from illness, protects us from pain, and soothes our emotions and spirit. When the free flow of Qi is disrupted or obstructed, the vital nourishment that it provides is cut off and disease may ensue.

How is Qi disrupted? There are many factors in ones life that can disturb the free flow of qi: physical and emotional trauma, stress, lack of exercise, inadequate diet, smoking and poor sleeping habits to name a few.

Acupuncture aims to remove these blockages and restore the body to its natural state of balance (homeostasis), allowing deep healing to occur. It is a safe, painless, effective means to treat a wide range of physical and psycho-emotional complaints.

Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as effective in treating these conditions:
