Tui Na

To a Westerner, Tui Na is the form of Asian bodywork most closely resembling conventional western massage therapy. Many of the techniques are similar -- gliding, kneading, friction, pulling, rotation, vibration, and shaking. Despite the similarities, the intent of Tui Na is more than the simple relaxation of a Swedish-style massage, as it aims to correct specific physical difficulties. It is particularly effective for arthritis, sciatica, spasms, and tension in the neck or shoulders.

Tui na seeks to influence the flow of energy in the body. It can be used as an adjunct to other Traditional Chinese Medical modalities to correct problems, or used as a preventive to maintain a healthy body and mind.
